TRANSPORTATION SPECIAL: Meade Alliance guide uses map, tips to detail choices
By Fort Meade Alliance
Posted 10/20/11
The Alliance has created the Destination Fort Meade transportation guide, which provides a convenient brochure-format summary of mass transit options for getting to and from the installation, such as local buses, commuter busses, shuttle bus service, vanpool, MARC and Metro services.
The guide, which is updated on a regular basis to reflect changes to the regional transit system, has been recognized for its content by state agencies including the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development, the Maryland Transit Administration and the Defense Information Systems Agency.
The Fort Meade Alliance transportation committee works with government agency tenants and their contractors to educate the workforce about transportation and work alternatives such as carpooling, vanpools, telecommuting and flexible work hours.
The committee's major focus is public transportation and how to improve and add to what is already available in the area. This includes the five area MARC train stations and local bus services or subscription bus services to Maryland Transit Administration and Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority services or the new InterCounty Connector.
Destination Fort Meade
Included in Destination Fort Meade, the commuter reference guide developed by the Fort Meade Alliance, is a map (right) highlighting mass transit options and routes to the installation.
The guide gives commuters a summary of available options, such as local buses, commuter busses, shuttle bus service, vanpool, MARC and Metro.
The Fort Meade Alliance has recently produced the 4th edition of the guide. This comprehensive publication showcases all that the region has to offer.
The newest edition also includes useful information about community events, cultural activities, housing, educational institutions, area attractions, vital statistics and more.
