SBP premiums tax exempt
Retirees are guaranteed a monthly income for life. But retired pay stops on the date the retiree dies. The Survivor Benefit Plan was created to protect widowed spouses and dependent children from a total loss of the security retired pay provides. With SBP, a retiree's eligible survivors will always receive part of the deceased member's military pay. Service members will have a chance to enroll before retirement.

The monthly premiums deducted from retired pay for the SBP are tax exempt. This substantially reduces a retiree's cost of participation. For more information, call Wanda Sims at 301-677-0202.
