Girl, Boy and Cub Scout Activities
The Fort Meade Girl Scouts will hold registration for new members during the Back to School Night at all elementary schools on or near the post Sept. 14 and 15. The schools are Meade Heights at Seven Oaks Elementary, Manor View Elementary and West Meade Elementary on Sept. 14 and Pershing Hill Elementary on Sept. 15. The Girl Scouts will also being taking pre-orders for girl scout cookies this month.
The Girl Scouts will host a Welcome Back Campfire from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sept. 30 at the Girl Scout Community Service Building 2212 on Rock Avenue near Chisholm. The activity is held to welcome all girl scouts back to their troops and to welcome new members to the organization. There will be a campfire, refreshments and games for the girls.
The Fort Meade Boy Scout Troop 377 will be attending the annual Defender's Day re-enactment of the siege of Fort McHenry and the writing of the "Star Spangled Banner" at Fort McHenry on Sept. 10. On Sept. 24, the troop will return to Fort McHenry for a community service project called the International Coastal Clean Up, sponsored by the Baltimore Aquarium. The troop will help remove trash from the marshlands around Fort McHenry.
Cub Scout Pack 514 will be spending the Labor Day weekend at Gettysburg National Military Park. During the three days, the pack will complete a nine-mile hike through the battlefield, visit President Eisenhower's home and tour the town of Gettysburg.
The pack is also beginning its fall recruitment for boys in first through fifth grades on the Back to School Nights at Pershing Hill Elementary, Manor View Elementary, West Meade Elementary, Odenton Elementary, Four Seasons Elementary and Meade Heights at Seven Oaks Elementary schools this month. The pack will also hold a meet and greet at noon at Fort Smallwood Park in Pasadena, Md., on Sept. 17. There will also be a barbecue and games for the boys and an opportunity for parents and their children to meet leaders of the pack.
Future activities for the pack include the McCubbie Clan Highland Games, a visit to the Indian Cultural Center in southern Maryland, the National Aquarium, the Baltimore Zoo, the new Black History Museum in Baltimore and a visit to Mount Vernon on President George Washington's birthday. One of the pack's many service projects will be helping Habitat for Humanity.
Pack 514 meets the first and third and fourth Wednesday at West Meade Heights at Seven Oaks Elementary School. The first meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Sept. 7. If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact Committee Chair Debbie Huprich at 410-969-7414.
